Money, a Means to an End: Personal Finance 102

Class fee is on a sliding scale of $10-$30, with suggested amount of $15, tea and sweets included!

In this workshop, we’ll continue the work we started in Personal Finance 101. I’ll briefly review my recommended budget structure and a few options for financial organization apps, but this workshops assumes you’ve already started if not finished drafting your budget. I offer Personal Finance 101 monthly, so I highly recommend taking that first.

Throughout the workshop, you’ll be maintaining a little Personal Finance To Do List. The first portion, we’ll be learning and discussing new topics, and I’ll be prompting you to add ideas to your to do list based on what we’re talking about. The second portion will be largely individual work on your to do list, and I’ll go around answering questions one on one.

New topics in Personal Finance 102

  1. Implementing your monthly budget and reserves for annual spending on a tracking app
  2. Taking advantage of knowing your cash flows: maximizing employer benefits, managing uneven income, etc
  3. Reviewing your spending: Does it align with what you value in life and does it support your savings goals? Ways to lower your bills.
  4. Assorted other tips: avoid paying bank and credit card fees, best practices with cash, when and why to organize receipts

During this session, no one will comment on anyone else’s spending. And in general during the series, I will never tell you that you need to spend less or more on X or Y. All levels of experience in personal finance and income are welcome.

Look out for future session covering investing, tax planning, debt strategies, and managing money as a couple.
